In the GaSEM project - a collaboration between Mems AG and UMTEC (OST Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences) - a fully automated sorption enhanced methanation (SEM) plant was developed and successfully demonstrated. At its core, the system relies on multiple gasQS™ static sensors to monitor thermal conductivity in real time, enabling a state machine to autonomously control reactor phases and ensure continuous methane production meeting Swiss gas grid injection standards. Published in OG Innovation (Spring 2023), this article by the project team describes how smart gas sensors make advanced Power-to-Gas automation possible — without gas chromatographs.
